Herowear Apex 2: the passive exosuit that is revolutionising lumbar support

At ExoHub, we are delighted to introduce the Herowear Apex 2, an innovative passive exoskeleton designed to reduce fatigue, muscle strain, and the risk of lower back pain during activities involving frequent bending and lifting. Unlike other powered devices, the Apex 2 operates without batteries or motors.

How does the Apex 2 work?

The Apex 2 acts like an “extra back muscle” thanks to a system of passive elastic bands that work in synergy with the core muscles during bending and lifting movements. These bands stretch when the user bends or lowers, then return energy during extension, providing natural assistance with every movement without electronic components.

Proven benefits

According to data shared by Herowear and associated scientific studies:

  • Reduction in muscle fatigue and back strain of up to 40% during physically demanding tasks.

  • Reduced load on the lower back muscles, decreasing the perceived effort during repetitive movements.

  • The device is designed to be lightweight (under 1.4 kg) and comfortable to wear all day, with a modular system that adapts to a wide range of body types.

This passive assistance role makes it a particularly attractive solution for environments where workers must frequently bend or lift without compromising their freedom of movement.

Design and comfort

The Apex 2 stands out for its ergonomic design and robust materials:

  • Abrasion-resistant fabrics and aluminium components for enhanced durability.

  • Reduced heat retention and a slimmer fit for extended use.

  • Easy-to-use on/off function, enabling assistance only when needed.

This textile engineering achievement makes the Apex 2 a suitable choice for many industrial or logistics applications, without adding unnecessary weight or complexity.

🤝 ExoHub and Herowear: collaboration and the A+A Düsseldorf trade fair

We had the great pleasure of supporting Herowear at the A+A trade fair in Düsseldorf last November, a major event for innovations in occupational safety and health. This event provided an opportunity to attend an insightful training day alongside the Herowear team, enabling us to better understand the technical nuances of the Apex 2 and to further strengthen our ability to support our clients in integrating this technology.

We would like to extend our warm thanks to the Herowear team for their welcome, their trust, and their sharing of expertise. This collaboration fully aligns with our mission to deliver effective, proven solutions tailored to real-world user needs.
